1, 2 & 3-hour rated structural steel fireproofing
Intumescent fireproofing is code-driven, mandatory, and inspected. When heat hits, the coating swells to 50× its film thickness and insulates the steel below the 1,000°F failure point. Our network's applicators carry UL-Erected qualification, work to engineer-stamped thickness specs, and provide DFT documentation and AHJ sign-off packages.
Typically $4–$12/sq ft of steel surface for a 1-hour rating, $8–$22/sq ft for 2-hour, and $15–$35/sq ft for 3-hour ratings. Hydrocarbon-rated systems for petrochemical run higher. Quotes by tonnage of steel are common.
Yes — every fireproofing applicator in the network carries manufacturer training (Sherwin-Williams Firetex, Carboline Pyrocrete, AkzoNobel Interchar, PPG Pitt-Char) and provides DFT logs, batch tickets, and inspection coordination.
Yes — most intumescent systems accept a decorative urethane or acrylic topcoat for color match, common on architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS).
Intumescent (thin-film) is used where steel will be visible or in dry areas. Cementitious SFRM is cheaper but bulky and only used in concealed or industrial spaces. Code official and architect spec which is required.
